What They Do
Automatic tensioners are typically engineered for each application so that the belt remains at nearly co
tension throughout the entire operating range. This ensures maximum accessory drive component life,
still preventing belt slip. Tensioners also help to dampen normal vibrations caused by the intermitent pi
firing sequence within an engine. Our patented “noose-ring” frictional damping system helps absorb th
vibrations resulting in less tensioner arm movement and belt stress. Automatic belt tensioners generally
not require service and will self-adjust for normal belt elongation. Each Gatorback® tensioner is applica
specific and engineered so that the belt tension, damping and amount of belt take-up are ideal for the
recommended application.
